NEW DELHI, AUGUST 12: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has in a statement on Wednesday disputed some of the facts reported in news items concerning the release of monkeys in Hyderabad by the Committee for the Control and Supervision of Experiments on animals.
The statement claims that the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad was violating the rules under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The institute's primate house was neither registered nor recognised due to the lack of facilities as prescribed under the act.
The Ministry clarified that the chances of the released animals survival in the wild are excellent. An expert team accompanied the animals in the wild and will continue to monitor the progress of the released animals over an appropriate period of time.
