Illegal liquor sale -- DSP, SHO, SI issued notices

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: A sub-divisional police officer, a station house officer and a sub-inspector are in the dock for their alleged failure to check illegal liquor business in their respective areas.

While DSP (East) Vijay Pal Singh has been given an explanation notice, police station east SHO Inspector P.M. Walia and Bapu Dham police post in-charge SI Dalsher Singh have been issued show-cause notices for censure. UT Inspector General of Police S.K. Singh has told them to reply within a week. There have been reports that liquor was being illegally sold in the area, following which the Criminal Investigation Agency raided the Bapu Dham Colony and recovered liquor a few days ago.

IGP S.K. Singh, when contacted, said that the officials have been asked to explain why they could not do what the CIA was doing in their areas. In a separate order despatched to all police stations of the city, Singh has asked the police officials to keep a strict vigil over illegal sale of liquor in view of the September 5 polls.
