Three killed in mishap
Solapur: Three persons were killed and 17 others injured when a tempo in which they were travelling in overturned on Ashti-Karkamb road in Pandharpur taluka of the district early on Friday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sarubai Yedage (60), Vaijayanti Tandale (60) and Mahadeo Janarao (70), police said adding that the injured have been admitted to a local civil hospital.
RPI-A men try to disrupt Pawar's speech
Satara: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar had a piqued time in Mhaswad town this evening when his angry allies from Republican Party of India (Athawale group) (RPI-A) tried to disrupt his speech. The RPI-A men were demonstrating against Pawar for allegedly ditching them in the seat-sharing.
Police resorted to a mild cane charge to disperse the trouble mongers, reports reaching here said. Pawar had to stop his address abruptly for a while to ask the cops to take suitable action. Police later whisked away the RPI-A men led by their district unit chief Ashok Gaikwad.
RPI-A was pressing for NCP leaving the Maan reserved constituency for its candidate. It later fielded Shivaji Tupe who now is contesting as an independent contestant against NCP's Tukaram Tupe. The Satara unit of the RPI-A was pressing for a few seats in Satara and Gaikwad had in public aired his displeasure for the NCP not paying heed to his party's demands.
Devotees pray at Balkhandibaba
Ahmednagar: Several devotees on Friday offered pooja to the Balkhandibaba at Manikdaundi village from outside the 200 meter curfew cordon.
The annual fair in the village under Pathardi tehsil was banned since certain difference between two communities were taken to the court of law in 1994.
The devotees coming in groups however paid offered jalabhishek to the Balkhandibaba from Shelkewadi village where they were stopped. The day was peaceful, Ahmednagar control room said.
