Israel transfers civil rule in parts of West Bank
Israel's transfer to the Palestinian authority of civil powers in seven per cent of the West Bank went into effect on Friday after Palestinian President Yasser Arafat ratified the handover.

Athens quake toll up to 94
The death toll rose to 94 in the earthquake that jolted the northern Athens area on Tuesday, the health ministry said Friday. The number of people being treated in hospital was 280, it said.

Fayed, driver's family appeal French ruling on Diana crash
Mohammed Al Fayed and the family of Henri Paul, who chauffeured the Mercedes in which Princess Diana died two years ago, have appealed a ruling by French magistrates last week blaming the crash on drunk-driving by Paul.
