Crime and comrades
If you are looking for yet another chapter in the criminalisation of Indian politics, here it is. Comrade Jyoti Basu, one of the longest-serving communist leaders of the world, also the only communist prime minister India has never had, has discovered a very prominent ``criminal'' called L.K. Advani.
Knocking the nexus
Cynics may counter that sportsmanship can today only be sought in sepia-tinted memories of a bygone era, but there are enough dreamers around who still seek in the game of glorious uncertainties an affirmation of old-fashioned notions of right and wrong.
Satraps still call the shots
Elections '99 underscore the paradigm shift that has visibly taken place in political representation. Communities have become more conscious, yet more segmented and, at the same time, more aware that they have to reach out to other groups to be successful.
