NEW DELHI, OCT 3: Given the water management programmes being pursued by the Government, India will not be able to meet the water requirements of its growing population which is expected to touch a figure between 1.5 billion to 1.8 billion by the year 2050.Rather rapid urbanisation and large scale industrialisation will result in water pollution, deterioration in water quality, contamination of surface and groundwater besides affecting the net availability of water for consumptive use, observes Indian Water Resources (IWR) Society.
In its theme paper on `Water-Vision 2050', the society comprising experts on water management has warned the Government against its lackadaisical approach in conserving the water resources, and stressed on the need to ensure the minimum flow in rivers and preserving of the groundwater.
All this is part of sustainable environmental and eco-system pre-requesites and any indifference towards it amounts to ``eco-terrorism''.
