MUMBAI, OCT 3: Five members of the Babloo Srivastava gang were recently sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by Additional Sessions Judge P K Chavare for demanding Rs 20 crore from a Mulund businessman.
Chandrakant Bhat, Pradipkumar Khurana, Jeetendra Pande, Istiakh Sheikh and Abdul Qasim alias Munna were charged under Section 399 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt at dacoity).
Bhat was also charged under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder) and sentenced to 10 years' RI. The two sentences will run concurrently. One more accused in the case, Aftab alias Javed, was acquitted. Public prosecutor Rohini Salian appeared for the state. All the accused, who were based in New Delhi, came to Mumbai in 1995 and camped at a Mulund hotel.
