RAJKOT, Oct 3: The Kodinar Chamber of Commerce and Industries staged a rail-roko agitation on October 2 in protest against their pending demands. Businessmen and members of the Chamber halted a train by sleeping on the tracks.Their demands include a railway crossing at the proposed new Kodinar by-pass; permission for an underground crossing of 11 KV GEB feeder to set up a new station; and laying of an underground water pipeline below the railway track. However, the railway authorities were sidelining their demands for years now, the protesters said. Hence, Chamber president Karsanbhai Solanki called for a Kodinar bandh and rail-roko agitation.
Kodinar observed a bandh and around 1,500 businessmen and people gathered at the railway station to take part in the agitation. Kodinar MLA Dinubhai Solanki was also present. They halted the train coming from Panikotha by sleeping on the tracks. Railways officials from Wankaner rushed to the spot and promised the leaders that they will look into the demands. With these assurances the agitation was called off.
