AHMEDABAD, Oct 3: A police sub-inspector and six other policemen have been arrested and suspended on Sunday, and an inquiry against them was initiated, after they were caught siphoning off liquor seized from a truck at Bhiloda.PSI S K Patel along with other policemen had apprehended a truck (GJ-3 T-2734) which, as they had registered in the panchnama, was carrying 378 boxes of IMFL worth more than Rs 2.5 lakhs. This accounted for more than 4,000 bottles. On a tip-off, the superintendent of police, Sabarkantha, received information that the policemen had registered fewer than the number of boxes expected.``We had information from an informant that the number of bottles registered has been lesser than the seized quantity,'' said Sabarkantha SP Samsher Singh.
Following a raid at Bhiloda police station, police recovered 64 boxes and another 54 bottles of IMFL from the station. A new panchnama was made by the assistant superintendent of police for apprehension of 450 cartons of IMFL, police said. The liquor siphoned off by the policemen was worth Rs 1.38 lakhs. Offences under the Prohibition Act have been registered against S K Patel, Harji Lakhmanbhai, Lakhman Bajabhai, Mansukh Marji, Ishwar Shamal and Somsinh Roopsinh, police said.
