Hoax-caller in police net

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Oct 3: A man, who reportedly misinformed the police that a bomb has been planted, ended up being caught by police here today.

Around 11.33 a.m. the Police Control Room received a call that a bomb has been planted on the Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway near the roundabout of Sectors 29, 31, Industrial Area Phase I and II. The police rushed its anti-explosive squad and Quick Reaction Team to the spot. The search operations were carried out but there was no trace of any explosive.

After it was established that it was yet another fake call made to take the police for a ride, the city police began the process of tracking down the informer. They had the caller's number on the caller identification system which took the police to Chander Moha, working with a factory in Ram Darbar, Phase II.

The police have begun proceedings under Section 182 of the IPC for "giving false information to a public servant in order to cause him to use his lawful power to the injury or annoyance of any person."
