CM donates Rs 80 lakh for jawans

PUNE, Oct 3: The people of Maharashtra would never leave in despair the institutions taking care of wounded soldiers, war-widows and their families, Chief Minister Narayan Rane declared on Saturday.

Rane donated Rs 60 lakh to Paraplegic Rehablitation Centre and Rs 10 lakh each to the Khadki Military Hospital and Queen Mary's Technical Institute from the CM's Fund at a function on Saturday.The donations from the CM's fund were not a favour to these institutions. This was ``his obligation and just a humble way'' to express his indebtedness towards the institutions dedicated themselves for the cause of soldiers. ``It's a responsibility of every citizen to discharge his duties for the sake nation's security,'' Rane said.

In the State like Maharashtra where people keep nation's pride above all, selfless deeds would never face paucity of money, Rane added.

He also announced donations worth Rs 21 lakh each to the artificial limb centre and the Command Hospital in Wanowrie. The cheques would be given immediately after receiving the applications from these institutes, Rane said.

The donations to the three prime rehabilitation institutes working for the wounded soldiers came through concerted efforts of former Air Marshal Yashwantrao Malshe and Sakal editor Vijay Kuvalekar writing to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Arun Bongirwar and principal secretary Ajit Warty.

Director of the State sainik welfare department former Col Bhagatsinh Deshmukh urged the Chief Minister to take steps to make available a fiscal support to about 850 war-widows across the State.

Chairman of a trust running the Paraplegic Home Col A S P Jyoti (retd), QMTI executive director Col Arun Moghe (retd), Commdandant of the Military Hospital, Khadki, Brig P S R Aiyer, Chief Secretary Arun Bongirwar and Kuvalekar spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the Chief Minister formally launched the touch-screen scheme at the district collectorate here.

Rane also published a information booklet on the collectorate's touch-screen project.

The one-window system at the Pune collectorate has received enthusiastic response. Over 3.82 lakh applications were decided out of a total of 4.18 lakh applications received through the one window scheme since it was launched in October 1998, district collector Vijaykumar Gautam informed the gathering.

Guardian minister Pramod Navalkar, Chief Secretary Arun Bongirwar, Mahratta Chambers of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture Prataprao Pawar, ETH project director Dr Vijay Bhatkar, industrialist Madhur Bajaj , divisional commissioner Rajeev Agrawal were present.
