Mann -- Badal has soft corner for Congress

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SAMANA, Oct 3: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann today accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of having a soft corner for the Congress and encouraging it in the state.

Addressing a party conference at Namadaan village, about 15 km from here on the conclusion of the annual mela, he said it was owing to Badal's policies that the Congress had got emboldened in the state. "Badal has entered into a secret pact with Congress to rule the state," he added.

Mann said the Badal government had broken all records as far as corruption was concerned. On the issue of checking corruption, Badal, he added, was playing a friendly match with Congress and had failed to take any serious action against Congress ministers who had amassed wealth through corrupt means.

Before coming to power, the SAD-BJP combine had assured the people that the alliance will provide a corruption-free government but it had failed to fulfill its commitment and corruption was on the rise, he said.

The Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader said the Badal government had failed to deliver the goods and owing to its wrong policies, the state was facing hard times financially. "The state government has no money left even to pay salaries to its employees. The treasuries have been instructed not to make any payment till further orders. Things are so bad that the government has started selling and mortgaging properties," Mann said. He also demanded imposition of financial emergency and dismissal of the Badal government. He also lashed out at the BJP for "failing to accept any major demand of the state".

Mann claimed that after the September 30 dharna at Sangrur, the plight of farmers had shown signs of recovery as no complaint has been received from any farmer regarding the distress sale of paddy in Sangrur district.
