Freedom fighter Khomane dead
Ahmednagar:
Radhakisan Kanhuji Khamone, veteran freedom fighter, who was ONE of the accused in the famous Sarosh theatre bomb case, died here yesterday. He was 80. He is survived by five sons, two daughters and grandchildren.

Khomane was cremated last evening at the Amardham crematorium in the presence of a large number of persons.

KMC employees threaten strike
Kolhapur:
OVER 5,000 employees of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from midnight of October 17 if the State government failed to accept their long pending demands including upward revision of payscales on par with those of government employees.

Ramesh Desai, Kolhapur Mahanagarpalika Karmachari Sangh president, told PTI here today that 382 vacancies were lying vacant for the past five years, resulting in a saving of Rs 35 lakh per month for the civic body.

Besides, daily wage earners engaged since 1978 onwards, had not been made permanent, he said.

Other demands in their 15-point charter include that grant of employment to the next of kin of retired fourth class civic body employees, he said.
