AHMEDNAGAR, Oct 23: As per the direction of the court, Shrirampur tehsildar Kishor Rajguru took custody of 42 bags of wheat which were confiscated from a trader by the Shrirampur police on the suspicion that it belonged to the government.
Earlier, the tehsildar had expressed his inability to take possession of the confiscated wheat, forcing the police to seek directions of the court in this regard.
The officials of the Maharashtra State Food Corporation conducted examination of the confiscated wheat and based on their report, the police had decided to file a case against the trader from whom the wheat was confiscated. The trader was likely to be arrested in this connection, sources said.
Meanwhile District Foods Supplies Officer Datta Deogaonkar on Friday visited Shrirampur to conduct investigations in this regard. Deogaonkar stated that he was informed of the incident on October 16 but he could not pay attention to the issue as he was busy with other official matters.
Deogaonkar also said that before taking any action, the local police should have informed either the district collector or the civil supplies officials. He said that the trader concerned would be issued notice, asking him to submit his say in the matter within seven days. Legal action against him would be initiated if he fails to submit his say, he added.
Meanwhile, the office of the tehsildar started inspection of fair price shops in Shrirampur. So far, 16 shops were inspected and it was found that the confiscated wheat was not from these shops, it was stated.
