Mankhurd station on harbour line is a link between Govandi and Vashi. The station has three platforms. Six years ago there was only one, today's platform no. 3. After development of other railway stations in Navi Mumbai, platform no. 1 and 2 came into existence. Earlier, the trains used to come only till Mankhurd on the harbour line.
Basic amenities:
The station has two water coolers and a toilet on platform no. 1 and 2 only, with no facility for platform no. 3. The station has 12 benches, but the officials as well as commuters feel there should be more. Moreover the existing benches are being used more by vagrants waiting to catch up on forty winks than the tired commuters.
Beggars and hawkers:
The station at any given point of time is crowded with beggars and hawkers, with very few commuters.
FOBs:
Mankhurd has two foot overbridges. None of them connect either sides of the suburb. Moreover, the foot overbridges here are convenient haven for the beggars. The GRP deputedhere seems to be helpless in controlling the menace. Despite several eviction sprees, the beggars come back as soon as the GRP constables leave. Mankhurd has two GRP constables who certainly cannot take care of the entire area.
Ticket counters:
The station has two season and three card ticket windows. Interestingly, two more card ticket windows are ready but due to scarcity of clerks the counters are not operational. Moreover, the chief booking supervisor here is made to take care of the cash. Whereas this is the job of a cashier. The station collects approximately Rs 47,00,000 every month from sale of card, season and station tickets and extension tickets. Mankhurd has a sale of 700 season tickets daily and 13,000 card tickets daily.
Mankhurd station does not have a PCO. The station has ten fans in all. ``There should be at least nine on each platform,'' says an official at station. Summing all up, there is scarcity of quite a few amenities at the station. Things could certainly be better ifamenities are increased.
