The protestors flayed the destruction caused by large trawlers operating in Indian waters under joint ventures, industrial shrimp aquaculture along India's coastline and unregulated operations and pollution by industrial chemical plants. They demanded that the government scrap licenses given to joint venture fishing vessels, implement the Supreme Court ruling of 1997 banning industrial shrimp aquaculture within 500 meters of the coastline and prevent industrial chemical pollution.
