However, as nothing incriminating has been found against them so far, their deportation proceedings have been initiated, Palej Police Sub-Inspector T N Kher said, adding that the family entered the country through Bangladesh.According to information, Zainab, of Karachi in Pakistan, had married a Bangladeshi, one Mohammed Alam Memon, who was then living in Pakistan. Later, when Memon decided to return to Bangladesh, he took his entire family alongwith him to Dhaka.

But Memon's parents did not approve of a Pakistani wife and reportedly tortured her after which Zainab decided to return to Pakistan. However, Memon did not have enough money to send her to Pakistan and, instead, sent their son Imran illegally to India.

Imran, who landed up in Bharuch hoping that it would be easier to enter Pakistan from Gujarat's border with Sindh, secured a job and subsequently brought his mother and four sisters illegally here in 1996.

Things then went on smoothly, until Zainab's daughter Afsana got involved with the the son of one Ghulam Mohammed, in whose house she was employed as a domestic. Mohammed, who did not approve of the mariage, then informed the police who detained the family immediately.
