Crime beat -- Chandigarh

Pedestrian injured
A pedestrian Usha Mahajan, of Sector 9, was hit by a Ambassador Car near the turning point of Sector 9 and 10 on November 18. She was injured and admitted to the PGI for medical treatment. The driver sped away and the car has been impounded. A case under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC has been registered and police have begun investigations.

Whisky seized
The local police have arrested Jaya Lal, a resident of Kumhar Colony in Sector 25, near Himachal Bhawan, Sector 24, and recovered 49 pouches of Hero whisky from his possession. While Behari, a resident of Khusinagar, has been arrested from Kajheri Chowk and recovered 50 pouches of whisky from his possession. Two cases under the Excise Act have been registered against them in two different police stations of the city and the matter is being investigated.

Scooter stolen
Satish Kumar of Bapu Dham Colony near Sector 26 reported that his Bajaj Chetak Scooter has been stolen from the Sector 26 Grain Market. A case under Sections 379 of the IPC has been registered in Sector 34 police station and the matter is being investigated.

Four arrested
The police have arrested four SAS Nagar residents for assaulting a lady of Sector 38 and trying to kidnap her one- year-old child. The arrested persons have been identified as Lal Chand, Usha Rani, Arvind Kumar and Ashwani Kumar, all residents of Phase-II, Mohali. They have been arrested on the complaint filed by Mahinder Kaur of Sector 38. She alleged that she was assaulted and threatened with dire consequences by the arrested persons who also wanted to kidnap her child. A case under Sections 452, 363, 506, 498A, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
