MCA Colts Powar past Hindu Gym

November 21: A fighting unbeaten knock of 170 by southpaw Kiran Powar helped MCA Colts gain first innings points over PJ Hindu Gymkhana on the second and final day of the Police Shield invitation cricket tournament, sponsored by Jayantilal Khandwala & Sons and Khandwala Securities, at PJ Hindu Gymkhana today.

MCA Colts, chasing 367, made it with seven wickets to spare. One drop Powar first added 144 runs for the second wicket with opener Nilesh Patwardhan, who was unlucky to miss his century by eight runs.

Powar found an able replacement in southpaw Nishit Shetty. They put on 132 for the third wicket. Powar's knock was studded with two sixes and 16 fours, and came off 175 balls. Shetty had three fours in his 50.

Atul Ranade's all-round display was instrumental in MIG's first innings win over Islam Gymkhana. Ranade, who claimed seven wickets on Saturday, scored 120 (1x6, 17x4). He was involved in a 221-run partnership with Viraj Zagde. Zagde's unbeaten 104 had 16 hits to the ropes.

The other centurionof the day was left-hander Vijay Singh (107). His partnership for the first wicket with Hrishikesh Shende (86) enabled Mumbai University to score 222 for two in their second innings.
