EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

VADODARA, Dec 2: A criminal case has been registered against two persons -- one of them an employee of the Makarpura branch of the Bank of Baroda -- on the charge of making a bid to cheat the bank.

According to the police, one Rajendrasinh N Bindra, a resident of Makarpura, opened a current bank account in the BoB branch in Makarpura GIDC through its employee B P Purohit on November 8, 1999.

After opening the account, Bindra deposited three bank cheques for Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 19.12 lakh. The last one was to be enchased from the Mumbai-based branch of BoB.

When the cheque issued by the Mumbai branch was deposited and sent for clearing to Mumbai, it was found to be a stolen one. Senior Branch Manager Maganbhai Madhavbhai Parmar lodged an FIR in the Makarpura police station immediately. PSI N D Solanki is investigating.
