Appeal on Shoaib ban
ADELAIDE: Pakistan has lodged an appeal against International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to ban paceman Shoaib Akhtar. Akhtar arrived with the Pakistan team for tomorrow's one-day match against Australia A.Team manager Brigadier Mohammad Nasir said, ``The appeal has been lodged, let's hope that they reconsider.'' Akhtar travelled with the squad on Monday to Adelaide to build up for the one-dayer.

Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer has hit out at the ``infernal price spiral'' of transfer fees and wages in the world of football, popular newspaper Bild Am Sonntag has reported. Malay dress codeKUALA LUMPUR: Volleyball players in a Malaysian Islamic-ruled state have been told to dress ``more decently'' for matches in the future, the official Bernama News Agency reported on Monday. Itquoted Mohamed Nasir Yusof, secretary of the Terengganu Volleyball Association, as saying the ruling was in line with the state government's desire to implement an Islamic dress code for sportsmen and women.

Rivaldo not to start
MADRID:
The Spanish first division restarts on Monday after a two-week break, but without Real Madrid due to their World Club championship duties in Brazil and without Barcelona hero Rivaldo because of his feud with coach Louis Van Gaal. Rivaldo is not expected to be on the bench in Wednesday's match with Real Sociedad.
