Rs 5,000-cr more for defence this year
An additional Rs 13,000 crore has been proposed for defence in the 2000-01 budget, the highest ever. The total outlay is Rs 58,587 crore -- 3.32 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) -- as compared to Rs 45,694 crore last year.



Cong alleges leakage of Budget
The Congress alleged in the Lok Sabha that the Union Budget 2000-2001 had been leaked hours before its presentation and sought to disrupt Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha from going ahead with its presentation.



Five Hindu truck operators killed near Anantnag
For the first time in the decade-long militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, militants targeted private supply trucks and shot dead five Hindu operators after separating them from others in Anantnag last night, an official spokesman said.
