1 killed, 2 hurt in Pune road mishap

PUNE, MAY 10: Two persons were killed and three injured in two separate road accidents which took place in various parts of the city in a short span of five hours on Monday night.

L D Damse, a 55-year-old pedestrian residing at Shivne village, was killed when he was knocked down by a motorcycle on the road linking Kothrud with the National Defence Academy (NDA). Motorcyclist K D Majire (38) and pillion rider B S Sambare (30) (both residents of Warje) were left seriously injured in the mishap. They have been admitted to a private hospital. Majire is stated to be in a critical condition while Sambare is out of danger, according to the police. Meanwhile, the Kothrud police have filed a case against Majire.

A separate mishap at Viman Nagar on Pune-Ahmednagar road claimed the life of Laxman Bheemsen Kamble alias Shinde, a 28-year-old six seater autorickshaw driver residing at Wadgaonsheri. Shinde's friend Sudhakar M Tompe (38) of Wadgaonsheri was left injured.

Police said Shinde was driving his six seater autorickshaw toward Yerawada from Chandan Nagar side when a truck collided head on with it. The truck was on the wrong side of the road at the time, they added.

The truck driver escaped after the mishap. His identity could not be ascertained till late evening. Yerawada police have filed a case of hit and run.
