Ramesh looks to GM norm
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

JULY 6: International Master R Bramesh, who missed Grandmaster norm by a whisker at the Andorra chess tournament recently, will seek to make amends by putting up a more consistent performance in the Benasque Open chess tournament which started here late on Wednesday.

Compatriot V Saravanan will also be eager to make up the loss in the Andorra Open, where after gaining sole lead in the fourth round, he lost two consecutive games and failed to finish in the top 10.

The other Indian in fray, Vedant Goswami, will hope to achieve the International Master norm in this tournament after a rather dull show at Andorra.

A total of 419 players will be taking part in the mega event which will feature 17 Grandmasters, 22 International Masters, two Women Grandmasters and four Women International Masters vying for the title.

Top seed Grandmaster Lev Psakhis of Israel will face tough opposition from the other Grandmasters in fray like Mihail Marin (Romania), Alexy Kuzmin (Russia), Cifuentas Para (Spain) and Campora (Argentina) among others.
