English language, a hindrance to internet penetration in India
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

MUMBAI, JULY 9: Internet penetration in India would not go beyond a certain limit with English as the official language of IT industry, Minister for Information Technology and Parliamentary Affairs, Pramod Mahajan said here.

``Unless one opts for regional languages as the official version for communication in the country, IT penetration will stay at a certain level,'' Mahajan said at the launch of India Bizline.Com, a business portal, here last night.

China has managed to register huge penetration of over 1.5 million it connections as they communicate in their mother-tongue, he added.

Commenting on the inclination towards the click economy,he said, brick economy has its own importance and government should not overlook this fact.

``What will the click economy sell in the absence of the manufacturers,'' he asked.

India Bizline.Com auctioned 10 shares of the company for Rs 70,000. The amount would be contributed to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

The portal is a business to business (B2B) market-place offering a business directory, auctions facility and business purchases.
