Military regime in Pakistan...

Dear Sir,
As a naturalized American of Pakistani descent I find it interesting that the President and the US media talk about restoring the democratic process in Pakistan. While I have never been a fan of the military regimes in the past, we need a break from the bi-polar corrupt and  failed leadership of Mrs. Bhutto and Mr.Sharif. In fact the institutions and the foundation needs to be there that will make sure that the people rights and will are followed. With 200  years of colonial rule we did not inherit a great system or heritage of civil government of , for and by the people.
I was an early supporter of Congressman Brad Sherman. I have written to him several times, last time handing him my letter, to get no response. When I write to our Senator's I get canned responses as they cannot read 3000 piece of mail a day! At my city council which is Thousand oaks when a group of residents wanted to  protest a development in their neighbourhood they were given one minute. The Venture City Council allows 5 minutes total for residents to speak for the whole meeting.
Is this the democracy that we want the world to emulate? We need new thinking and a return to the values, beliefs of our founder's. Hopefully the military regime will try to fix some of the problems created by the Bhutto-Sharif regimes so that it will once again be honorable to be involved in politics.

Ekbal Quidwai, USA.
