Massive security for Kannur repoll
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Kannur (Kerala), Oct 9: Unprecedented security measures, including deployment of as many as 1,600 police personnel at 30 polling booths, have been planned during repolling for the civic polls here tomorrow.

Addressing a press meet here today, District Collector K R Jyotilal and superintendent of police, S Gopinath, said the massive security arrangements would also include mobile patrol parties, checking of vehicles and use of netal detectors.

(Repolling at 30 polling booths was ordered following reports of booth capturing and rigging during elections held here on September 27).

Security would be strengthened at areas under the Kolavallur, Panur and Koothuparamba police station limits, where incidents of violence were reported earlier.

Meanwhile, police continued combing operations in several parts of the district today to arrest some culprits, allegedly involved in poll-related clashes. Raids were also conducted at certain places in Mahe with the help of the police there, the sources added.
