Ajit Singh justifies Rao, Buta conviction
SIRAJ QURESHI

AGRA, OCT 9: Lokdal leader Ajit Singh today welcomed the court's order convicting former prime minister Narasimha Rao and Buta Singh in the JMM bribery case.

Singh said that Rao and Buta Singh deserved to be sent to jail for ``deceiving people and playing with their sentiments''. He was here to address a party meeting.

Singh said that the NDA government had agreed to marginally roll back the petroleum prices to please Mamata Banerjee and not for public good. He said the UP and Central governments had failed to perform and the BJP would be wiped out in the next elections. The Lokdal would not join hands with any party in the elections and still win enough seats to influence the formation of the next govt.

Singh alleged that the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students were being harassed on religious grounds. He demanded that the RSS not be spared if SIMI was banned.

Singh said that Uttar Pradesh would be divided once more after the Assemblyelections because the state with its 17-crore population had fallen victim to mismanagement. Even though Samajwadi leader Mulayam Singh Yadav was not in favour of dividing the state, party workers wanted the division.

The Lokdal leader alleged that Yadav had accumulated black money during his term as UP chief minister. He demanded a CBI inquiry into Yadav's assets, warning that his party would otherwise stage a dharna near Parliament on October 20.

Apart from that, even Mr. L.K. Advani has said that if the UP govt. passes the resolution, the center will give its consent for the division.
