Politicians Today...

Dear Sir,

For politicians' ideology and integrity today, there cannot be a better test than seeing their alacrity in defecting once denied party ticket for elections. Just tongue lash your party or some of its leaders openly or surface in any of the meetings addressed by a leader of prominence from the party you intend to cross-over; and that's all for a new incarnation. If denied a ticket here too, there still exist chances to roll over if the elections are not yet over. If elected, you can rest the oars and rely on your skills honed as stump orator that keeps you going till next elections.

All this appears to be ritual  before the elections now for the politicians for whom duty is something they look forward with distaste, do it with reluctance and leave no chance to boast for ever after. Driven by the characteristic  'chalta hai' syndrome they spend a substantial part of their tenure in frivolities and then go before the people craving for another chance towards the end. As a matter of fact, not even 10% of them actually deserve another chance, if their performance as an elected representative of the people is considered.

It is, therefore, imperative that electorate must think twice before casting the vote realizing  that  it is only a subset of the  population to be actually governed. Election Commission, too, must think of making the ballot more realistic and meaningful, by devising ways by which only right persons can gain entry into our legislating bodies. Only then can we hope of something more positive from the politicians.
