Senior Cong leader resigns from party
HYDERABAD, OCT 13: Senior Congress leader and former MP B N Reddy resigned from the party today in protest ``against the raw deal meted out to honest and committed party workers''. Addressing a press conference here, Reddy said he had faxed a letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi informing her about quitting the party in protest against ``raw deal meted out to honest, sincere and committed party workers like him and encouraging persons working against the party's interests and having a criminal background''. Elected three times to the Lok Sabha from Miryalguda constituency in Nalgonda district, Reddy, an architect by profession, was denied party ticket in the last Lok Sabha elections from Miryalguda. S Jaipal Reddy, former union minister, who joined the Congress on the eve of the elections, was given the ticket and contested successfully from Miryalguda. Reddy was sore that the party leadership ignored his plea to take disciplinary action against former minister and MLA V Purushottam Reddy, who hails from Nalgonda, for acting against party's interests in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls earlier. Reddy also protested that though the party high command had promised to give him seat in the Rajya Sabha for giving room to Jaipal Reddy to contest from Miryalaguda constituency, which he represented earlier, it never kept its word. Asked about his future course of action, he said he would decide about it at an appropriate time after consulting his followers and well-wishers.
