Chandigarh, March 7 The UT Administration has devised an online system to deal with matters related to building plans. The move is a result of the initiatives of UT Estate Officer RK Rao, who is also Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh. According to the new system, which will come into force very soon, it will be possible to make building plans and related documents online.

The project—- Building Plans Approval, Tracking and Management System— developed by the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology and the Punjab Engineering College will also have the provision of SMS (short messaging service). One just has to send an SMS from a mobile phone to know the status of a particular case of a builder or the allottee or that of the architect. According to the plan, allottees will be given a password and a code number for their convenience. More often than not, the UT Estate Office is thronged by residents trying to get their building plans cleared. With an online system in place, it will be possible to track every movement of the file and the time taken in processing an application. It will also be possible to know the name of the officer who is handling a particular case.

“The move will also help curtail corruption. Many times we receive complaints about officials harassing those who want to know their acse status. in the procedure,” said a senior UT Administration official. The administration has invited architects in and around the city, who have clientele in the city, to get themselves registered with the office of SDO (Buildings), UT Estate Office, on the UT Estate Office’s website www.sampada.in. The architects are to get themselves enrolled by April 15, 2008.
