Ludhiana Municipal Corporation
For MC Commissioner GS Ghuman promises are made by politicians but 'executed' by his department. The Municipal Corporation will focus on removing traffic bottlenecks in the coming year because congestion has assumed alarming proportions in the city. Though the commissioner promises to expedite the pending projects in the coming year including a bypass along the Buddha Nallah, he will have 365 days to convert others' promises into his action.

Telecom department
Better services to our subscribers in the New Year. This is the mantra of the Telecom department. "In the beginning of the year, we will initiate the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) Service in the city. This service will provide 120 television channels to its broadband subscribers with a monthly rental of Rs 150," said SK Nigam, GM Telecom.

Education department
The thrust will be to teach science and mathematics to students in the government schools. Computer education and clearing the cases of GPF, medical cases and ACRs will be their area of concern. To discourage the trend of copying during examinations will continue in the coming year as well.

Police department
Ludhiana Range DIG Ishwar Singh says, "We plan to make a majority of the police stations computerised for which the work has already begun. But we hope to complete the work in the New Year. Besides, I hope that the work would also progress on the Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) project which is also underway at the state level. The CIPA project is a multilingual application to automate the processes (workflow) at primary sources of data itself that is police station and to build a crime and criminals' information system based on the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). It provides an efficient way of organising crime records for generating queries or reports and crime analysis for decision support. The CIPA Software developed in JAVA and implemented under open source environment through Linux (OS) and Postgres (RDBMS).

Health department
The district Health department plans to focus on the implementation the tenets of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in 'true letter and spirit'. Civil Surgeon Dr SP Sharma said implementing the NRHM schemes in the best possible way will be the priority of the department. He said implementation of the scheme would include all the basic standards of health in the district. The department has decided to be more careful and better equipped in the New Year to deal with the outbreak of diseases with plans to fight the water and vector borne diseases by launching elaborate awareness programmes and enforce the PNDT Act in a more stringent manner.

Transport department
Clean air. This is the jingle of the transport department. For DTO Chander Giand, “Our endeavor to provide better services to the public will continue. We would make our best efforts to start the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) based transportation facility in the city. This will definitely reduce the pollution level in the city.”

District administration
The District administration plans to put an end to public grievances, says DC Sumer Singh Gurjar. More facilities at Suvidha Centre and upgrade of land revenue department are a few of the tasks that the department promises to complete in the coming year.
