While college authorities did not divulge the details, sources say that three students, Jaswinder Singh and Gourav of BBA first year and Gurcharan Singh, a first year B Com student, got involved in a verbal duel which soon turned violent and resulted in a fight.
This led to one of the students, Gurcharan Singh getting facial injuries, after which, he called some outsiders to the campus.
Meanwhile, his friends in the college too had gathered and what was earlier a minor scuffle turned into a big issue. The college management then called the police.
Deepak Kaushal, officiating principal of the college, said: “It was a minor incident but we called the police.”
He added that the parents of all those involved in the incident were called and have submitted a written apology, signing an undertaking that their wards will not be involved in any such future incident.
Narinder Kumar, assistant sub-inspector of Division number 4, said: “We received a call informing us about the incident and reached the college. We brought the students to the police station and left them after giving warnings.”
Photojournalists manhandled
Officiating Principal Deepak Kaushal, meanwhile, misbehaved with photojournalists who had gathered at the spot to take pictures. Gurmeet Singh, president, Photojournalists’ Association and Parmod Batish, President, Press Club, have strongly condemned the college authorities for their behaviour and the incident.
