L K Advani, the saffron party’s Prime Ministerial face, pilloried the Nehru-Gandhi family for what he described as its brazen appropriation of the Congress party and making it a ‘family fiefdom’.
Advani also took a jibe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying he has sympathy for him as the Congress president has become more powerful than him.
Dwelling on how does BJP’s leadership differ from that of the Congress, he said, “in the Congress party, for leadership there is reservation for members of a particular dynasty. No one else can” become a leader at the top.
“I sometimes feel depressed to see how brazenly an entire party has been appropriated and made into a family fiefdom and how slavishly Congressman have resigned themselves to this appropriation,” he said.
“It is the saddest development in India’s political evolution,” he said on a day Gandhi achieved an unparalleled feat in the history of the Congress by completing ten years as its president.
The leaders of the BJP on the other hand, he said, have come from the common people who support the party and it never had a life-long president as the Congress does.
In sharp criticism of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Advani said the Indira Gandhi government ‘altered the basic structure’ of the Constitution during Emergency days and today ‘they have destroyed the basic structure of the Congress Constitution’.
"It is not surprising that those who had the arrogance to tamper with the nation's Constitution for the sake of power, tampering with the leadership selection within one's own party is a very simple matter indeed," he said.
In his nearly 90-minute speech, Advani devoted most of the time to paint Congress as a dynastic party and even talked about how most of the Government programmes, institutes and schemes are named after members of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
"I have an objection to this present Government's leadership, Congress party's leadership that is not merely in terms of who occupies the top post. But even in terms of projecting to the country who are the great men, they are unshackled by that dynastic concept," he said.
The basic difference, he said, between BJP and the Congress is that ‘we never had a life-long President in our party. Some parties have. We never had. In Congress party it is a life-long dynasty’.
Advani alleged that 10, Janpath (the residence of Gandhi) has become more important than 7, Race Course (PM's house) and reiterated that Manmohan Singh is the weakest Prime Minister India has ever had.
"Even persons like Deve Gowda, Chandrasekhar and I K Gujral who did not have big parties with them did not seek the permission for everything from the Congress party," Advani remarked.
"I sometimes pity him. I feel sympathy for him. The office of Prime Minister has authority which is enormous. There is no lack of authority in that," he said.
He said there is some sort of Kremlinisation of Indian polity like the erstwhile USSR where the General Secretary of the Communist Party has more power than the country's President.
There is more Indianess in Sonia than in most Indian politicians. Advani is trumpeting the old stale slogan to whip up nationwide personal hatred against Gandhi-Nehru family and t is signify the utterly jealous character of the leading frustrated politicians whose policies unacceptable by the nation and the facts are that these types of disgraceful innuendoes are self-centred and self-destructive: the last general election results is telling pointer to NDA and BJP.Advani stooped so low and stupefied and insulted the entire nation by paying tribute to rotting flesh and bones of the mass murderer, Jinnah, at his sepulchre. No patriot, with the thorough knowledge of the history of India, will ever dream of stooping so low to pay obeisance to the rotting flesh and bones of the mass murderer and treacherous prime enemy of India in India’s modern history.
Rosh, Perhaps, you know that there is an agitation for separate Telangana. The Congress stooges from Andhra leave it to "sonia"! The waiver of Rs. 60,000 crores loan s to farmers was because of sonia! Rahul, joust one amongst 500 or so, visits Orissa and the party spends crores of rupees (public money) to project him as the future king of India! Taht's the problem! Congress party is the problem, because it is not issues that are important for this party but the members of the roayal family. And the country is in the hands of such a party and that is a problem which, every right-thinking person should address! This is the biggest shortcoming of the party and it has to be addressed!
Hon,ble Advani ji, God is smiling at sonia and laughing at you. Act fast to get the desired fate without crticising anybody.Criticism will take you away from your goal. Because it is the God's wish and none can dare to interfere or stop it.
Raju, rather than mesuring a party by who is ruling it ,measure them by the work taht has been done. I am not sayin that congress is good or bad..or BJP is good or bad. What i am pointing out is where does this dynasty fit in, in serving the nation. I think what these so called servers of the nation should be doin is pointing out the short coming of the parties in their work rather thier internal shortcomings
Rosh, you are, perhaps, not aware that the so called 'issues' are of least importance in congress which is virtually ruling this country! Unfortunately, it is the individuals that are considered important in this useless party and not the issues! The PM, by being submissive to the party leadership is abdicating his real responsibilities and this is a dangerous situation that should be the concern of every right-thinking Indian! As long as Congress acts as a dynastic party adn holds powetr, there is no salavation for the country!

Rather than concetrating on the real issues that are facing the nation, Mr Advani out bashing his anti gandhi boldrum. Get real Mr ..think about what needs to be done to take teh nation ahead rather than hitting out at select people. Get on to issues that need to be doen rather than what had been done.The age old ritual of the politicians to crticize each other is still goi n on ...ITS A PITTY THAT THE NATION HAS ADVANCED IN ALL AREAS BUT POLITICS!!!!
Mr. Advani should talk about real issues and not worry about how Mr. Manmohan Singh conducts his business. One thing Mr. Advani has not talked about is the way the Doctor has sttod firm and long on the issue of Civil Nuclear deal with US, which is in India's National interests. For BJP, it should not be worry that a single family that is taking importance on the national arena. What should worry them are the issues that India as a nation needs resolution. Mr Advani must first identify the steops that he needs to take to improve the face of India, rather than talking about how PM conducts himself and the importance of Sonia Gandhi. In no way, Dr. Manmohan Singh is the weakest PM. His soft voice can mislead. I feel India is indeed grateful that a man like Dr. Manmohan Singh is our Prime Minister.
hey Advani, what o you have to say about dynasties in BJP, BJD, Shivsena? Do you have gutts to condemn Mahajan family (his daugher came to politics), Naveen Patnaik, Bal Thackrey, Uddhav Thackrey, Abdullah family?If Advani has any shame he will also condems his own chamchas.
If this is the vision of PM in waiting , i pitty, the party he represents. Sir, find issues important for the growth of the nation and leave Congress and Gandhi family to be handled by the peiple, who elected them.
This is not about vision. It is about criticism. Advani has every right to criticize a party just as every Indian Has. Don't you feel that dynasty politics in cong has snuffed out good talent from it? Don't critcize Advani, accept reality
It is the herd mentality of Indians which has made it possible for Nehru-Gandhis to be ruling Dynasty.We as citizens of free India have to change our attitude. Moreover many blame Gandhiji for not helping his son Harilal! That is the Maya of India.
Yes.Shri.L.K.Advani is very right in every aspect.Are they no other leaders except these dynastic progeny among millions of Indians? The seniors among the leadership build up and strenthen the dynasty. This applies to DMK in TN ,Shiv sena in Mumbai and so on .There should be un hidden democracy in party which will strengthen the real democracy in the country. Let the young voters learn this to be a real citizen of the greatest democracy.
