10 mill workers injured as bus rams into truck

Machhiwara, January 7 Ten female workers of Malwa Cotton Mills were injured, three of them seriously, when the mini bus in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck at Kohara road near Machhiwara on Monday evening.

All the victims were rushed to Civil Hospital, Machhiwara, from where they were referred to Oswal Hospital, Ludhiana by the mill authorities. Three of the injured persons sustained serious injuries. They were identified as Champa, Reena and Jasbir Kaur. The bus driver Jaswinder Singh also got injured in the accident.

Sources said there were 23 female workers in the bus at the time of accident. Machhiwara SHO Randhir Singh told Newsline that the accident took place near Iraq village on Kohara road, just after the bus left the mill to take the workers home, at about 5.30 pm. The SHO added that the mini bus hit the stationary truck while trying to go past it. Randhir Singh said that further action would be taken after recording the statements of the victims.
