NOIDA The Noida police on Friday claimed there were 10 people involved in Monday evening’s gang rape of an MBA student. Ten people were earlier believed to have raped the South Delhi-based woman in Sector 39 here.

Seven persons have been arrested in the case so far.

Noida’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naveen Arora said this newly identified man — Golu Jatav — had called the others from the village to commit the crime.

The police today also announced a reward of Rs 2,500 for information on the four accused absconding since the incident. “We will search houses these absconding men,” SSP Arora said. He said the police, despite protests from political parties and villagers, will book the accused under the stringent Gangster Act.

Those on the run have been identified as Pushpendra (alias Tuiya), Omkar, Shashi Kant (alias Kalu), and Golu Jatav.

Amar Singh, SP men detained
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh and around many party supporters were detained soon after they entered Noida through the DND flyway on Friday. Around 150 SP supporters were detained for a few hours while they were headed for Garhi Chowkhandi, the village where the accused belong.

“I am not here to defend the accused,” Amar Singh told the media, “but I want a fair trail. Ten people could not be involved in the crime — it could be one or two. The Mayawati government is targeting supporters of the Samajwadi Party.”

Calling the rising number of crime against women in Noida a “failure of the Mayawati government”, he said, “The government has targetted the Yadav community. If she (Mayawati) wants, she could beat a confession out of me as well. I will also say I am one of the accused.”

All India Mahila Congress chief Prabha Thakur also addressed a gathering and was later detained by the police.
