Organised by city-based Guardian Education, along with the 11 students one teacher went along . Speaking about the trip Sandeep Joshi, director of Guardian Education, said, “This is the first time that students from India were visiting the Kennedy Space Centre. Last year, in May, we had taken a group of 60 students to US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama. We have now been appointed as official space camp coordinators for the Kennedy Space Centre, in India.”

Kushal Sonigra, one of the students, said, “The space shuttle experience and the simulator ride were the best experiences that we had. In the six days that we spent at the camp, we attended lectures, discussions, project making and also interacted with astronaut Robert Springer, who was on the space crew of the STS-29 Discovery.” Dhyay Mehta, the youngest student of the batch, says, “In addition to the Kennedy Centre, we also visited the CNN world headquarters in Atlanta. We also saw the Saturn-V, the biggest rocket that they had, the F-1 which is the fastest engine and the Vehicle Assembly Building where the rockets are assembled and which is the world’s largest single-story building.” Rekha Ovhal, the teacher who accompanied them, said, “Along with the students, I myself had participated in the activities in the Centre. Also, on successful completion of the camp, all the students were awarded a certificate in a convocation ceremony.”
