12 hurt in road mishap

Mumbai Tweleve people were injured on Friday night in a road accident at Jogeshwari. According to the police, a Honda Accord car rammed two rickshaws and two motorcycles after the driver lost the control over it. The victims were sitting inside the parked vehicles, said the police. Rohidas Gavaji Kanbake (32), driver of the car, was travelling from Powai to Andheri on Friday. Two rickshaws and two motorcycles were also damaged in the incident. The victims were rushed to Shalyak hospital in Jogeshwari and Cooper hospital in Vile Parle.

The police said that the victims were discharged from the hospital after the medical treatment on OPD basis. However, a case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the driver. He has been arrested and will be produced before the court on Saturday, the police said.

“Kambavde wanted to go to Andheri (west) from Powai when the incident happened. He was taking a turn at JVLR Junction to get onto the Western Express highway. But he lost control over the car,” said an Police Sub Inspector J Dighaskar of the Jogehwari Police station. “Fortunately no one was seriously injured,” he said. Asked if Kanbavde was drunk, he said, “No, he was not under the influence of alcohol. He just happened to lose control over the car due to the speed. A few pedestrians were also hurt.”
