146 held for gambling in Borivali club

One forty six people including five women were arrested from a club in Borivali for gambling, on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the Social Service Branch (SSB) conducted a raid at a Borivali-based club. Senior Police Inspector Raju Joshi of the Social Service Branch said, “The raid was conducted at Alankar Club in Borivali on Monday around 6 pm. 146 people, including the owner of the club, 19 disc jockeys and five women above 50 years, were arrested for gambling. We also seized Rs 6.66 lakh in the raid.” He added that the same club was raided last year also and led to several arrests.

“The arrested have been charged under Sections 4 (A) and 5 of the Prevention of Gambling Act. The next step would be to cancel the license of the club as the club is meant for social activities and not gambling purposes,” said Joshi. ENS
