Ahmedabad A 14-year-old boy from Naroda, who was kidnapped on Monday, was found murdered in the Kharicut Canal near Odhav on Tuesday morning.

The boy, Krunal Gohil, was a resident of Parshwanath Township, Section II in the Naroda area. Later, the Naroda police arrested two youths, who are maternal uncle of the boy, in this connection. The two have been identified as Yogesh Parmar (21) and Chirag Gohil (20), both residents of Odhav.

According to the police, Krunal had left home in the afternoon to play cricket, but did not return. Around 6 pm, his father Hasmukh Gohil, got a call on his cellphone from an unidentified person, saying his son had been kidnapped. The caller demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom, and said he would call again the next morning. Soon after this, Gohil lodged a complaint with the police. And the next morning, Krunal’s body was found.

Deputy Commissioner of Police A S Gehlot said Yogesh and Chirag wanted to make some quick money, and thus, took to kidnapping. This was their first kidnapping. The duo, however, got scared after they came to know that Krunal’s father had lodged a complaint. Fearing arrest, they killed the boy by strangulating him at Chirag’s house and dumped the body in the canal at late night.

According to Gehlot, Krunal did not know that the two had kidnapped him till they killed him. “They kept the boy with them under the pretext that due to a quarrel with his father some people wanted to attack him,” Gelhlot said.
