15 couples tie knot at mass marriage

Ludhiana, February 24 Nishkam Sewa Ashram, Daad village, Pakhowal Road solemnised mass marraiges of 15 couples as per their respective religions.

Traditional band welcomed marriage parties of bridegrooms and brides at the villlage following which they were served breakfast. Later, religious ceremonies were performed to solemenize the marriages.

Sarwan Kumar, chairman of Nishkam Sewa Ashram, K.K. Sood and other members of the organisation welcomed the chief guest Vimla Devi, wife of late Amar Chand Jain and Jai Singh Parmar from Canada. Each newly married couple was given household articles and clothes on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Sarwan Kumar, chairman, Nishkam Sewa Ashram, said that mass marriages were being solemnised for the last 30 years. “It is not an obligation to anyone but it is our social duty to help the needy people of our society. We want to give message to public to not to kill girl child before birth, don’t make your body graveyard of girls, avoid AIDS, beware of problems like drinking, smoking, drugs etc.”

Nishkam Nishkam Sewa Ashram wants to spread awareness among the public through each of its event and programme, he said even as he wished the couples a happy married life.
