Kolkata At least fifteen people were killed and 10 more were injured when a bus coming from Cooch Behar fell into a 15-feet deep pond at Diwanpur, near Dinhata on Sunday. Police said the bus met with an accident after its front tyre burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle and fell into the pond. Fifteen bodies were brought out from the bus and injured passengers were taken to MJN Hospital and Dinhata Sub-Divisional Hospital for postmortem.

The vehicle was later hauled up with the help of a crane as fire brigade, disaster management and police personnel joined rescue works along with locals. “Identification process of the bodies is on. We are trying to find if there are any more bodies inside the waterbody," said Smaraki Mahapatra, district magistrate of Cooch Bihar. Traffic movement along Dinhata-Coochbehar highway was stalled for several hours as locals blocked the road to protest rash driving.
