Patiala Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer Kusumjit Sidhu today said para-military forces would be deployed in many parts of Punjab during the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. The process of identifying sensitive polling booths is underway, even though the EC has identified some sensitive districts so far, she said. At least 150 companies of Central forces have been sought for Punjab. The request in this regard, said Sidhu, has already been sent to the Chief Election Commissioner.

Besides, as many as 7,200 additional voting machines have been sought for the state, which will be received from the Election Commission by the end of this month, she said, adding that a database for all the voting machines is also being prepared this time.

Sidhu was here to hold a meeting of Patiala division to assess the law and order situation and poll preparedness. She held a meeting with Patiala’s Divisional Commissioner Jasbir Singh Bir and Patiala’s DC-cum-District Electoral Officer Deepinder Singh.

Sidhu also reviewed the recently-concluded revision of electoral rolls and said that a total of 94 per cent voters in the state had got their photo voter cards made.

She said to ensure that the remaining voters also get their voter I-cards made, a special drive would be launched in the state on February 22 and 23, where polling booth agents of various political parties will be asked to interact with the polling staff to ensure that all arrangements are in place.

She also asked the DEOs to identify sensitive polling booths and stations and ensure that all poll arrangements are in place.
