Kolkata, March 25 A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin at his Namkhana residence in South 24-Parganas.

The victim, a resident of Pathar Pratima, lodged a complaint at the court of the Kakdwip sub-divisional magistrate court South 24-Parganas today.

She told the magistrate that Panchugopal Dinda, son of her maternal uncle, had raped her on February 25 and March 4 when she was alone at home.

But police refused to register her complaint, she told the court.

Subhankar Sen, Chief Judicial Magistrate, instructed the officer-in-charge of Namkhana police station to initiate a probe and produce the accused before the court. He asked the officer to treat the victim’s complaint as an FIR.

“The victim, along with her elder sister, had gone to Namkhana police station to report the sexual assault, but the officers refused to register a case. She also lodged a separate complaint to the circle inspector and sub-divisional police officer, but they did not initiate a probe,” said Kallol Das, her advocate.

The girl had gone to Namkhana on January 17. Besides molesting her, the accused had snatched her gold earring and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anybody, said Das, who is also the President of Kakdwip Bar Association.
