Mohali A Teenager dodged the driver of a car and ran away with a bag containing over Rs 2 lakh in cash on Thursday. The incident took place in a busy market in Phase I, near the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

According to the police, Dooni Chand of Phase VI, who works as a manager with a private firm, had come to the market around 1 pm in his car.

Investigation officer Harbhinder Kumar said Chand went to a sweet shop, leaving the car and his driver near the post office in the market. As the driver was waiting, the police said, a boy, aged around 15 years, came to him and said oil was leaking from beneath the bonnet of the car.

The driver came out and opened the bonnet but did not find any leakage. When Chand returned, the police said, he found the bag that he had left on the rear seat of the car missing.

The driver then told him about the boy and said he must have run away with the bag when he got out of the car to check the oil leakage, said the ASI.

Chand said the bag contained Rs 2.05 lakh in cash and some important documents.

In another incident, miscreants broke into a house in Phase VI and decamped with around Rs 75,000 in cash, gold ornaments and other valuables.
