Chandigarh The status report submitted by Additional Director General of Police Chander Shekhar further says that nearly 16,000 acres of common (shamlat) Gram Panchayat land on the periphery of Chandigarh was transferred to various bigwigs, including MPs, MLAs, IAS and IPS officers, by the Punjab government in the last few years.

“(The) matter requires thorough probe,” ADGP Chander Shekhar has said in the report.

Total 15,985 acres, 7 kanals and 1 marla land has been transferred. This figure has been submitted to the High Court for the first time since investigation into the scam began.

In the report, Shekhar has also suggested action against Amit Mishra, former District Forest Officer (DFO), Mohali, for supplying incorrect information about illegal occupants on the land.

In an another significant suggestion, Shekhar has submitted: “Though Nagar Panchayat Naya Gaon informed on June 2, 2009, that all constructions within the Nagar Panchayat were illegal, yet (the) Executive Officer (of the Nagar Panchayat) did not elaborate as to how he reached this conclusion and why no further action has been taken in this regard.”

Shekhar has also taken a dig at the Director Local Bodies, Punjab, for not cooperating with him. “The Director Local Bodies has failed to give information. The Chief Secretary, Punjab, may be asked to seek explanation,” Shekhar has submitted.

The report also lists names of elected representatives and IAS officers yet to submit details about their properties.

The political leaders are: Avtar Henry, Balbir Singh Ghunas, Charanjit Singh Athwal, Chuni Lal Bhagat, Dayal Singh Sodhi, Jagdish Rai Swahney, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Zora Singh Mann and Arunesh Shakir.
