A 16-year-old girl has lodged a complaint against her father, accusing him of raping and impregnating her. A resident of Koli village in Chhota Udepur, the complainant alleged that her father hit her on the stomach with a spade in a bid to kill her unborn child when he got to know that she was three-month pregnant.
The police said she managed to escape from her father’s house and went to her maternal uncle’s home in the neighbouring village. She lodged her complaint at the Rangpur police station on Friday evening. The accused, Ditiya Nayak, is absconding. According to the Rangpur police, Nayak had returned to his village only a few months ago after serving a 14-year term in jail in connection with a murder case.
Before going to jail, Nayak had relations with a woman, who lived in the neighbouring village, and they had a daughter, the police said. The woman later married another man, leaving the girl with her brother, Mathurda Nayak and his wife, who raised her as their own daughter, they added. After coming out of jail, Nayak sought the custody of his daughter. Though Mathurda put up resistance, Nayak succeeded in taking her away with him, the police said. Police officers said when the girl returned to his foster parents on Friday, she was bleeding. She told them about her father’s act after which they took her to the police to lodge a complaint.
“Ditiya used to threaten the girl and had been abusing and raping her. The girl did not speak up earlier because she was scared. But when she realised that she was pregnant and told her father about it, he got violent and hit her with a spade to force an abortion and also assaulted her. The girl managed to escape and ran away to her uncle’s village,” an officer said. The police have launched a hunt for Ditiya Nayak and are waiting for the girl’s medical report.
