Chandigarh A 16-year-old girl was raped by an acquaintance at her Sector-37 residence three days ago. The matter came to light after the girl’s parents filed a complaint late on Friday night. Her medical report has confirmed rape.

The police said the parents have accused one Rajbir, a resident of Rohtak, of rape. According to the police, the victim’s parents had gone to Ambala and Ferozpur for official work two days before the incident, leaving the victim and her younger sister at home.

Rajbir, an insurance agent, works with one of the victim’s father’s friend. “Therefore, he knew the family very well and would visit them often,” sources said. The accused would travel to the city once or twice in a week, sources added.

“Three days ago, Rajbir visited their home. The victim told Rajbir that her parents were out of town. He asked her younger sister to go to other room and let her prepare for exams. Rajbir then bolted the room and raped her. He also threatened her to not disclose the incident to anybody,” the police said.

A day later, the victim informed her mother about the incident over the phone. “On Friday night, the parents formally registered a complaint against the accused. We have got the victim medically examined and recorded her statements. The report has confirmed rape,” said Station House Officer of Sector-39 police station, Inspector Janak Rana. The SHO further said they have sent the teams at Rohtak to nab the accused.
