In Khejuri-II, one Trinamool Congress supporter sustained bullet injury in his leg, police said.
Superintendent of Police (East Midnapore) S S Panda, however, said the overall situation in Nandigram and Khejuri was under control. No one has been arrested, he said.
“It is not possible for the police to restore normalcy in Khejuri and Nandigram unless both the sides avoid violence,” he added.
In the evening, Panda visited Khejuri and met with policemen deployed there. The Trinamool supporters alleged that CPM workers had attacked their party office at Jonka gram panchayat where some homeless families had taken refuge two days ago.
Nearly 15 families have been driven out from Sabarpalli at Khejuri by the CPM supporters, said Ranjit Mondal, Shabhadipati of East Midnapore Zilla Parisad and a local Trinamool leader.
Mondal also alleged that CPM cadres, along with hired goons, attacked their party offices with firearms. The hired miscreants arrived on motorbikes and opened fire at the party office, he alleged, adding, “Samir Panda, a Trinamool supporter, was injured in the firing.”
“In retaliation, the Trinamool workers set three motorbike of CPM cadres on fire,” a local Trinamool leader said.
Mondol alleged that after his party won a few seats in Khejuri — a CPM stronghold — during the recent panchayat polls, the CPM camp has prepared a plan to establish its domination before the parliament elections. They have been organising such attacks on Trinamool supporters, he added.
On the other hand, Bijon Roy, a CPM district committee member of East Midnapore, alleged that Trinamool supporters attacked the rally of CPM at Janka in the morning following which violence broke out. Trinamool supporters tried to capture Khejuri in a similar way they had adopted in other parts of Nandigram, he added.
Trinamool walks out of Assembly over Nandigram
Trinamool Congress on Tuesday walked out of the Assembly in protest against Speaker H A Halim’s refusal to admit an adjournment motion over the fresh violence in Nandigram. The Speaker also refused to admit another adjournment motion moved by the Congress on the same issue. The Speaker, while rejecting both the adjournment motions, allowed the parties only to read them out.
