A resident of Sector 36, Himanshu had failed his Class XI exams and did not tell his parents about it, the police said.
He then tampered his roll number card of Class X by first scanning and then laminating it. The tampering was done in a way that it also bore the school principal’s signature.
As the student went to appear for the Chemistry exam on Saturday at Vivek High School in Sector 38, his crime came to light after the centre code on the card did not match with that of the school. The name of the school was also wrongly mentioned as Vivek Senior Secondary School, which raised the suspicion.
The card was then verified from the CBSE and the student was arrested. A case of Section 420 of the IPC was registered against him on the complaint of Baljit Singh Dhindsa, Central Superintendent, CBSE.
The student was sent to 14 days judicial remand today. Himanshu told the police that he feared ridicule by the society and had thus told his parents that he was appearing for the Class XII exams privately.
